Merck invests SGD20 million laboratory in Singapore
First GMP BioReliance biosafety testing lab in Asia Pacific offering critical testing services to bring life-changing therapies to market

Merck has opened a new SGD20 million laboratory in Singapore. The 3,800-square-meter lab is the first of its kind outside of the US and UK, and the first in Singapore.

Biologics testing is a major step in the drug development process to ensure sterility, safety and overall quality of customers’ biological drug products.

The lab will support biotech and pharma customers in Singapore and the Asia Pacific region and accelerate speed-to-market for drug therapies.

The new one-stop Singapore lab consists of three different labs:

  • M Lab Collaboration Center is designed to recreate an actual manufacturing environment, and offers non-GMP lab space for training, hands-on demonstrations and process optimisation through various stages of biopharmaceutical development and manufacturing. The flexible lab allows customers to recreate their specific processes for troubleshooting critical process issues without impacting their own production line.

  • BioReliance Biosafety Testing Service Lab is the only lab in Asia-Pacific offering lot release testing (tests product biosafety profile during bioprocessing), viral clearance testing (validate client's process capability to remove adventitious viruses) and biorepository (stores precious cell banks and provide a global network of storage facilities to mitigate risk and convenient access to customer’s cell banks). These crucial safety-testing services ensure the safe release of leading medicines to patients around the world.

  • Media Development Services Lab which offers services including customised cell culture media and feed development services for biopharma customers.
