This issue focuses on healthcare systems, mainly healthcare policies in different countries across Asia. I am excited to have the chance to speak to some important people from the Ministry of Health from countries including Taiwan, Philippines, Myanmar and Thailand. They are very driven towards implementing and improving the health systems in their respective countries.
Dr. Shu-Ti Chiou, Director General of Health Promotion Administration, Ministry of Health and Welfare, Taiwan, especially has left a very deep impression, when she said “It’s Action, and It’s Now!” during the interview. It is this energy and passion in duty that we should learn from.
There are some recent updates on the happenings of our Spotlights section. Lite-On group headquartered in Taiwan, has set up a new biomedical R&D centre in Singapore. Besides, the Philippines has launched a public dengue immunisation programme with the approved dengue vaccine from Sanofi Pasteur, Dengvaxia®. It is the first public programme in the world and is definitely a milestone in the history of vaccinology. Under the same section, we also introduce four of the top 10 young Asia’s TR35 innovators under the age of 35, yet successful and courageous.
