THE J750: The World's First Full-Colour Multi-material 3D PRINTER

In medicine, the most beneficial use of 3D Printing is to create organ models customised for the patient for doctors to use in surgical planning. 3D Printing has revolutionised science, healthcare, manufacturing, and even culinary arts, with its innovative technology from concept to realism.

Stratasys, one of the leading game changers in the 3D printing and additive manufacturing industry, has launched a full-colour multi-material 3D printer—known as the J750—in Singapore. This is the first of its kind, and what better company to design this than one with more than 25 years of experience in the field? Stratasys has taken the existing technology, imposed miscellaneous materials, and infused limitless a spectrum of colours to produce the results in less amount of time it would take than the J750’s predecessors.

APBN Editor, Carmen, and I were more than happy to attend the media event for Stratasys Ltd held in the month of May. There to greet us were Omer Krieger, the General Manager, and Ido Eylon, the Vice President of Sales for Asia Pacific and Japan region. They gave a concise, straightforward introduction about the features and benefit of this new printer that holds so much promise.

The J750 enables customers to mix-and-match full colour gradients for the first time alongside an unprecedented range of materials to achieve one-stop realism without post-processing. Along with the system’s superior versatility, this makes Stratasys’ latest printer the ultimate 3D printing solution for product designers, engineers and manufacturers, as well as service bureaus.

One-Stop 3D Printed Realism Delivers True Product-matching Prototypes and Unprecedented Cost/Resource Efficiencies

The Stratasys J750, the premier addition to the Objet Connex multi-colour, multi-material series of 3D Printers, lets customers choose from more than 360,000 different colour shades plus multiple material properties—ranging from rigid to flexible and opaque to transparent. Prototypes can include a vast array of colours, rigid or rubber materials, accelerates production of realistic models, prototypes and parts for virtually any application need. In turn, this delivers incomparable 3D printing versatility to produce tooling, moulds, jigs and fixtures and more.

The J750 is a true product milestone. It can facilitate instantaneous decision-making. The means by which products are designed, evaluated and brought to the matter are streamlined, thus making it user-friendly for almost everyone. The productivity-boosting J750 is purposefully made simpler, as it is expected to improve TCO (Total Cost of Ownership) by eliminating many of the traditional complex processes, time and resources required to create product-matching prototypes. Designers and engineers can physically experience tangible prototypes within hours of developing an initial concept for immediate design and function validation with internal stakeholders and end users.

[3D printing technologies] are also enabling the ‘new possible’ by producing new designs that could not be made with traditional manufacturing technologies, while negating assembly, improving performance and elevating part quality,” Michael Shanler, Research Director and Pete Basiliere, Research VP for Imaging and Print Services, Gartner, has stated.

Increased Productivity and Throughput with New PolyJet Studio and Six Material Capacity

The J750’s one-stop realism is supported with a streamlined workflow beginning with the all new PolyJet Studio™. The software’s new intuitive user interface allows users to simply choose materials, optimise the build and manage print queues. Assignment of colours, transparencies and rigidity is eased via familiar design controls. Colour textures can be loaded fully intact via VRML files imported from computer-assisted design (CAD) tools.

The Stratasys J750 also minimises downtime associated with material changeovers. Featuring a large, six-material capacity, including rubber and rigid materials into several cartridges, it keeps the most used resins loaded and ready for printing. Newly designed, state-of-the-art print heads means simulated production plastics, like Digital ABS™, can be 3D printed in half the time of other Stratasys PolyJet systems. As 3D printed models are delivered complete with full colours, colour textures and multiple materials, no time is wasted on painting and assembly. With measurements of 51 x 49.6 x 43.4 inches, another attractive feature is that it has a huge tray that could fit and print more than one prototype simultaneously—depending on the size, of course.

To be honest, it was exciting to see the prototypes up close. We were privileged to witness the J750 at work during the demonstration where the printer was mid-way to printing a prototype, which was in full-colour, specifically selected from the comprehensive gradient from their cutting-edge software that any end-user—no matter what learning capacity or age—can gain mastery of. It is awe-inspiring to live in a time where the rapid evolvement of technology can only present infinite possibilities and more benefits can be reaped.
