EDITOR'S LETTER
Flipping through the APBN March 2017 issue will give you an introduction into traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) and its progress.

In Dr Hong Hai’s article titled Can Chinese Medicine and Biomedicine Converge?, he explicitly explained the different practices of TCM and Western medicine of, which the first is “patient-centric”, while the latter is “disease-centric”. Although different medical interventions and approaches are used, he believes there is a glimmer of hope that Chinese and Western medicine can eventually converge. It is indeed an insightful read.

Another interesting article in the Features section would be the one on how practicing integrative medicine could achieve optimal health and healing. Currently, natural products, deep-breathing exercises, yoga, Tai Chi and Qi Gong are some complementary health approaches used in the United States. The author of the article, Dr Hwee Ling shared about the key charac¬teristics of integrative medicine which include holistic, patient centred, and individualised care, and the importance of prevention and wellness.

In Ginseng: Nature’s “Cure-All”, APBN writer, Catherine, creatively called the well-known herb for lowering stress and increasing brain function, Ginseng, as a natural cure-all. In her article, she highlights the origins, types, benefits and potential side effects of Ginseng.

In the Spotlights section, we discuss about the invisible problem in Asia Pacific – Malaria, and the newly-launched Philips Health Continuum Space, which has eight different environments to contextualise multiple health-medical scenarios simultaneously.

I believe this “Get to Know TCM” issue would be mind-blowing and inspiring.

Thank you.
