EDITOR'S LETTER
APBN April issue runs you through diabetes, an increasing prevalent disease worldwide with no cure, thus requiring more attention for its prevention.

In the Features section, Dr Michael Bergman’s article "Prediabetes: The Gap between the Onset of Disease and Initiation of Treatment", which mentions that it is challenging to have an optimal method to identify individuals at high-risk for developing diabetes. Although lifestyle intervention is clearly seen to benefit those with prediabetes, targeting the stage of “pre-prediabetes” would give rise to more favourable impact and higher efficacy in reducing the progression of diabetes, but it is still difficult to do it.

In addition, articles such as "Understanding Diabetes" and "Diabetes: A Dietitian's Perspective" give you a bigger picture of what diabetes is, types of diabetes and some common myths, and more importantly, the recommended dietary approaches to diabetics. Check out other informative articles in Features .

APBN interviewed a few Nobel Laureates in Physiology or Medicine during the Global Young Scientists Summit (GYSS) 2017. Also in the Spotlights section, we tell the inspiring story of how Geoffrey Ball, a person who has hearing loss, invented an innovative implantable hearing device. APBN also spoke with GSK to find out more about over-the-counter (OTC) medicine along with the trend of self-care practice in the region.

Hope you enjoy reading APBN magazine and learn something new from our April 2017 issue.

Thank you.
