The story of WeDoctor
How it uses technology to create China’s medical service system for tomorrow.

China has nearly one-fifth of the world's population, but the average number of doctors per thousand is 2.4, far less than that in Europe and the United States. Facing the problems of an overwhelming number of patients in the first-class hospitals at Grade 3 and the shortage of medical resources in remote areas, China has found a unique solution to balance medical resources and protect the health of families and individuals through scientific and technological means.

WeDoctor Group China, founded by Mr. Jerry Liao, is a platform that provides online and offline healthcare services like follow-up consultations and drug prescriptions, using the technologies of internet, big data and artificial intelligence to create China’s medical service system for tomorrow.

Before WeDoctor was founded, Jerry, a pioneer in intelligent voice recognition technology, saw the opportunity with the rapid rise of internet access in China to solve the problem of limited medical healthcare access to China’s 1.4 billion population. So, he founded China’s biggest online medical appointment system Guaohao.com in 2010.

In 2015, as the company expanded into new strategic fronts, Guahao.com was renamed to WeDoctor, and went on to establish China’s first Internet Hospital in Wuzhen, Zhejiang Province.

Committed to using science and technology to empower healthcare, WeDoctor drove the ecological upgrade of “medical insurance”, and created an international leading HMO (Health Maintenance Organisation) platform to provide its users with “Online+Offline, General+Specialised” new medical and healthcare services, becoming the safeguard of hundreds of millions of families.

Jerry shared that WeDoctor has been helping hospitals, doctors and patients to improve the efficiency of medical services from the starting point of appointment registration. Since its establishment eight years ago, WeDoctor has connected more than 2,700 hospitals, 260,000 doctors and more than 20,000 pharmacies in China, to become the country's largest doctor-patient matching platform and big data platform for medical and healthcare.

Empowered by its service base, this platform has helped doctors to better serve patients and allow patients to find good doctors nearby. The WeDoctor platform is connected through cloud hospital information systems (HIS) and provides convenient medical and health services for individuals, families and institutions, as well as executes its "online and offline, general practice and specialty, whole person and whole process" strategy through a smart health device.

The "WeDoctor Tong" and "WeDoctor Smart Clinic" independently developed by WeDoctor’s science and technology department is the most sought after "black technology" of medical health. For common minor ailments, a user can call the health manager and contact the family doctor with the press of one key to get health guidance quickly.

Also known as the "Intelligent Medical Station" for all kinds of institutions to serve the health of employees, The WeDoctor Smart Clinic consists of an intelligent mobile medical all-in-one machine, an intelligent medicine cabinet, and a series of intelligent peripherals for inspection. It is a one-stop-shop for medical healthcare services, such as providing an offline first diagnosis, online re-examination, consultation and follow-up, as well as online medicine purchases for institutional users such as enterprises, nursing homes, communities and schools.

Jerry Liao revealed that WeDoctor is speeding up the implementation of its HMO strategy and has now opened five general practice centers in Beijing, Hangzhou, Nanjing and Chengdu, with plans to launch 100 more in the next three years.

The WeDoctor smart device has also entered the homes of millions of families in China, and the WeDoctor Cloud Patrol Service has served nearly 10 million grassroots users. This year, in a collaboration to build an intelligent medical ecosystem and become a "health gatekeeper" for families, WeDoctor took a strategic stake in a new IVF Medical Group - Hong Kong's largest assisted reproductive medical group, set up a joint venture with idsMED Group, as well as signed a MOU with Singapore’s Fullerton Health.

WeDoctor services to 181 million platform users now and could potentially become a big business in China with the sheer demand for better and more convenient healthcare services for its 1.4 billion population.

Mr. Jerry Liao is the CEO and founder of WeDoctor Group (formerly Guahao.com).
